Oil Painting

This old weather beaten barn stands on the grounds of Chapman Forest, a historic tract of land in southern Maryland. A manor house dating from colonial times, Mount Aventine, is surrounded by prime forest overlooking the Potomac River. While visiting friends who live in the area, we happened to go for a walk one gorgeous spring day. The old barn looked so appealing peeking through the branches interspersed with sprays of redbud and dogwood blossoms, I took a photo of it, and this painting is my impression of it, recollected later in the studio.
