This etching on copper plate, made using a photographic transfer technique, was taken from a pen and ink drawing by the artist's father, Aquiles de la Maza, made in 1962, as a present to his wife Olga. De La Maza (1905-1979), a Cuban architect, was one of the early advocates of historic preservation in Cuba, as well as an accomplished draftsman. He is best known for his work on the restoration of the church of San Juan de los Remedios in Las Villas, under the patronage of Eutimio Falla y Bonet. Only a few of de la Maza's exquisite pen and ink drawings survive.
