| Although mangrove seed pods are very prominent, gradually lengthening toward the water to form the roots of a new plant, I had never seen the mangrove's flowers which give rise to them. I read that they were pale yellow, and bloomed profusely in the summer months, so during a visit to Key Largo I set out in search for them. After driving all over the area's back roads in vain, it occurred to me the flowers must be quite small, and finally pulled over for a closer look. Sure enough, the plants were covered with the small greenish-yellow flowers which I later painted in the branch on the lower right. |
