Summertime Heat

After this past winter with record-setting snowfall, we are now enjoying the sweltering temperatures of high summer. Recently MAPAPA members were invited to paint at a garden in Davidsonville. Fay and Gerald Bange's garden is designated as a display garden by the American Hemerocallis Society (Hemerocallis is the botanical name for daylilies).

It was a classic hot and humid day, so I got an early start to try to beat the heat. With such a dazzling display of blooms, it was hard to choose what to paint. I finally settled on  view towards the back of the garden where tall trees made a nice backdrop for the riot of color in front. You can see the resulting painting below.

Later I braved the afternoon heat to paint a close-up of the colorful variety you see here in the photo.

Recent News

Elena is participating in a number of paint-outs this year, organized by the Mid-Atlantic Plein Air Painters Association (MAPAPA).

She was recently selected as one of the juried artists for Ellicott City's Paint It plein air weekend. The artists will paint in historic Ellicott City on the weekend of Aug-28-29. The artwork will be on display at the Howard County Center for the Arts (HCCA) from August 30 through Oct. 15, 2010 with a preview reception on August 30 from 6-8 PM.
